Hebrews 7:15 And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, 16 one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life.
Priesthood of Aaron
In the bible, the works of the priests are very important since they were working as mediator between God and his people for the forgiveness of sins of people. According to the Law of Moses, this priesthood was given to Aaron and his descendants.
Exodus 29:9 and fasten caps on them. Then tie sashes on Aaron and his sons. The priesthood is theirs by a lasting ordinance.
According to these words of God the priesthood was given to Aaron and his descendants and they worked for the sanctuary, serving God and giving offerings to God through animal sacrifices.Since Aaron was the first one who was anointed to be the high priest, the priesthood was called “the Order of Aaron,” named after the first high priest. Their main work was sacrificing animals for the atonement for sins.
Leviticus 9:7 Moses said to Aaron, “Come to the altar and sacrifice your sin offering and your burnt offering and make atonement for yourself and the people; sacrifice the offering that is for the people and make atonement for them, as the Lord has commanded.”
Priesthood of Melchizedek
However, the bible teaches that there is “another priest like Melchizedek.” And the Order of Melchizedek is completely different from the Order of Aaron. First, in the Old Testament, the priesthood was given to the tribe of Levi because Moses and Aaron came from that tribe, but the priesthood of Melchizedek came from the tribe of Judah, a tribe which had nothing to do with priesthood of Aaron.
Hebrews 7:13 He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.
So this another priesthood is not coming from the tribe of Levi, but from the tribe of Judah. And also the things offered are different too. In the Order of Aaron, they sacrificed animals, but in this priesthood of Melchizedek, the offerings are different.
Heb 8:3 Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer. 4 If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already priests who offer the gifts prescribed by the law.
Because of these and many other reasons, the priesthood in the Order of Aaron and Melchizedek are different from each other. The Order of Aaron was the priesthood based on the Law of Moses , but the Order of Melchizedek is one based on the Law of Christ. Then what is the Order of Melchizedek?
