2000 years ago, the saints of the early church had to suffer death because of their religious faith. Instead of surrendering to the world and following the traditions of the world, they received martyrdom and kept their faith to the end. Just as Paul said, they considered their life worth nothing in keeping their faith.
Today, nobody forces us to sacrifice our life for keeping the faith. Then is it easy to keep the faith and receive salvation? It is not so. There are so many things that lead us astray and make us fall away from the faith. For this reason, Father and Mother teaches us that we must become spiritual martyrs. Then what is the spiritual martyrdom?
When we keep ourselves away from the worldly things, we are doing the spiritual martyrdom. Especially, we can find many things that lead us away from God: such things that entice us away from God as games, movies, dramas, immoral things. We are exposed to these things every moment of our life. When fall into the habit of doing these things, spiritually it is like we come into terms with the world by following the worldly customs.
When we say no to these practices, spiritually we are sacrificing ourselves to keep the faith. In other words, we become the spiritual martyrs. Father and Mother want us to overcome the worldly things that corrupt our mind and soul. We should all become spiritual martyrs and stand firm in the faith to the end.
