What is the bible for? What is it that we should learn from the bible? Is it moral lessons, history, stories…?
John 5:39 You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
The bible is the book that testifies about the Christ or the Anointed One. The Christ means God Almighty who comes down as man in the flesh. When God comes down to this earth, he will make himself as man in every way so that it might be almost impossible for people to distinguish the Christ by looking at his physical appearance. That is why Jesus Christ was rejected by people of the time even though he was the God they believe for such a long time. Only a small number of people could see the divinity hidden behind the physical appearance of the Christ. Then how could they know? Through the Scriptures that is the bible because the bible is the book which testifies about the Christ. The only way for us to know the Christ is through the prophecies of the Scriptures. That is why even Jesus himself testified about himself through the bible, not through the miracles and wonders.
John 5:31 If I testifiy about myself, my testimony is not valid. There is another who testifies in my favor, and I knwo that his testimony about me is valid.
Who was the one testifies about Jesus? John the Baptist? No, Jesus says, “I have testimony weightier than that of John” immediately afterward. Then who is he speaking about? God. How can we receive God’s testimony so that we know who the Christ is? Through the bible.
Luke 24:27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
After resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples who almost lost their faith in Jesus because of the things that happened to him: his suffering and death on the cross. To renew their faith in him, he simply showed them through the Scriptures the reason why all those things should happen to him. By teaching them the prophecies of the bible and the fulfillment through his death and resurrection, he was proving them that he is the Christ.
By using the bible to testify about himself, he is teaching us that the bible is the only true testimony or the weightier testimony coming from God himself. The only way for us to understand who the true Christ is through the testimony of God recorded in the bible.
1 Corinthians 15:3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures
Therefore, all the disciples of Christ also used the words of God in the bible to testify about the Christ. Those who believed God’s testimony in the bible could receive the Christ, but those who didn’t believe rejected him. All these things written in the past was written to teach us. Like the Jews who were tested about their faith in God through the Christ who fulfilled the words of God in the bible, we also are being tested now on our faith in God through the Christ who would appear for the second time according to the Scriptures. The story of the Jews teaches us what we should do to know the Christ, God coming as man in the flesh.
The only way for us to pass the test is through the testimony of God in the bible. Who does the bible say Christ Ahnsahnghong is? Who does the bible say the Heavenly Jerusalem is? The bible says that they are God, the Spirit and the Bride who give eternal life in the last days. The Jesus who said, “I will raise him up in the last days” came back again in the name of Christ Ahnsahnghong and giving out the water of life.
